COCHLEAR IMPLANTS

Cochlear implants can be life-changing for people with significant hearing loss who receive limited benefit from hearing aids. At our clinic, we provide independent, expert support for cochlear implant users, working with all three major manufacturers to ensure you receive personalised care that’s right for you.

Leaders in Independent Cochlear Implant Care

We are proud to have been one of the first private cochlear implant programs in Victoria, with a long-standing commitment to innovation, independence, and patient-centred care.

Importantly, we are one of the few clinics in Victoria that works with all three cochlear implant manufacturers, giving you access to truly comprehensive and unbiased support, all in one place.

What is a Cochlear Implant?

A cochlear implant is a medical device designed to provide a sense of sound to people with moderate to profound hearing loss. Unlike hearing aids, which amplify sound, cochlear implants bypass the damaged parts of the inner ear and directly stimulate the hearing nerve.

A cochlear implant system has two main parts:

  • Internal implant – Surgically placed under the skin

  • External sound processor – Worn on or behind the ear

Together, these components help convert sound into electrical signals that the brain can interpret.

Independent Support Across All Manufacturers

As an independent audiology clinic, we are not limited to a single brand. We work with all three leading cochlear implant manufacturers:

  • Advanced Bionics

  • Cochlear

  • MED-EL

This means we can provide unbiased advice, ongoing care, and support regardless of which device you use. Our focus is on achieving the best possible outcomes for you.

BONE CONDUCTIO IMPLANTS

Bone conduction implants offer an effective hearing solution for people who are unable to benefit from traditional hearing aids. At our clinic, we provide expert, independent support for patients considering or already using bone conduction hearing systems.

What is a Bone Conduction Implant?

Bone conduction implants work differently from conventional hearing aids. Instead of amplifying sound through the ear canal, they transmit sound vibrations directly through the bone to the inner ear (cochlear), bypassing the outer and middle ear.

These systems typically include:

  • An implant or anchor placed in the bone behind the ear (in some systems)

  • An external sound processor that captures and converts sound into vibrations

This pathway can provide clearer hearing for individuals where sound cannot effectively travel through the ear canal or middle ear.

Who Can Benefit?

Bone conduction implants may be suitable for people with:

  • Conductive hearing loss

  • Mixed hearing loss

  • Chronic ear infections or conditions that prevent wearing traditional hearing aids

  • Congenital ear canal absence or malformations

If you’ve struggled with conventional hearing aids, this may be a valuable alternative to explore.

Devices We Work With

As an independent clinic, we provide support across leading bone conduction implant systems, allowing us to offer unbiased advice tailored to your needs.

We work with:

  • Cochlear™ Osia®

  • Oticon Medical Sentio

  • MED-EL ADHEAR

Each system has unique features and candidacy criteria. During your consultation, we’ll guide you through the differences and help determine which option is most suitable for your hearing, anatomy, and lifestyle.

  • Pre-implant assessments and counselling

  • Trials with non-surgical bone conduction devices (where appropriate)
